At the sale the attribution was confirmed by Professor Sumowski, who dated the painting to the 1680s.
Fred Meijer from the RKD, The Hague has refuted this attribution. He proposed in 2009 a possible attribution to Justus de Gelder.
The painting was unknown to Leon Krempel.
